PLACES OF TOURIST INTEREST

BEKAL

Bekal, situated on the seashore of Pallikere Village, is an important place of tourist interest in the district. It lies 12 kms South of Kasargod Town or 9 kms North of Kanhangad town. Railway station Bekal Fort Railway station (= Pallikere Railway station) . Bus stop :Kottakkunnu=Agasarhole.
Bekal Fort is now under Archeological Department of the Government of India. There is a Travelers’ Bangalow , maintained by the Public Work Department of the State Government within the Bekal Fort. It was in the year the central government declared Bekal Fort as a special tourism area.

Anandashram
Situated 5 kms. East of Kanhangad town. It was founded in 1939 by Swami Ramdas, a great vaishnava saint of modern times

CHANDRAGIRI
Chandragiri lies 3 kms. South of Kasargod town. It has a large square situated above the chandragiri river on its southern bank. The fort is said to have been built in the year 17 th century by Shivappa Naik. Railway Station: Kasargod / Kalnad/ Kottikulam . Bus stop: Melparamba.

Edneer mutt
Situated on the Kasargod- Puthur road, about 8 kms north east of Kasargod। This ancient mutt is reputed seat of learning। It attracts devotees from all over Kerala and Karnataka and other states। Railway Station: Kasargod/Kumbla Busstop: Kasargod / Kumbla।

Hosdurg Fort:
The Hosdurg fort within its rounds bastions, looks imposing from a distance। Several government offices are located within the premises।

Kanwatirtha Beach Resort
The clean and neat 3-4 kms long beach and swimming pool like lake , half a km. long and proportionately broad, formed by sea water, are gift of nature.

Kottacheri Hills
This rain forest near Panathur , is a beautiful picnic centre which is also ideal for trekking। “Thalkkaveri” , in the Bragmagiri mountains of Coorg is quite near to Kottacheri Hills । Railway Station: Kanhangad Bus stop : Kanhangad

Kumbla Fort:
Kumbla is situated 13 kms north of Kasargod town, was the seat of the Rajas of Kumbla who once held sway over the southern part of the Tuluva country which included the present Kasargod taluk.
It was in Kumbla that Parthishubha , the ‘Father of Yakshagana’ was born in the 18 सन्तुरी

Maipady Palace

The place is about 8 kms from Kasargod on the Kasargod –Perla road and within 3 kms from Madhur Temple. Here the teachers training institute DIET. Anandarapuram temple just one kilometer from here

Nithyananda Ashramam
There are two notable ashramams in Kanhangad ,viz., the Nithyananda Ashramam and the Anandashramam. The former , which is on the hilliock about half a km. south Kanhangad town.
Here 45 caves in a mountain slope . the is a temple built in 1963, after the style and design of the famous Somanatha Temple in Gujarat.

Povval Fort
This is an old fashioned fort on the Kasargod –Mulleria route, about 10 kms.from Kasargod

Posadigumpe
Posadigumpe is an ideal tourist centre , located on a hillock 487।68 meter above sea level in Dharmathadka , about 22 ilometer east of Uppala Town. On top of it , one can see the Arabian sea and the vast arecanut gardens of Kasargod , extending up to Mangalare City and to Kudremukh.

Ranipuram
The former Madathumala has taken this new name recently। Lying 780 meters above sea level, it is only 9 kms from Panathur Town, which is 48 kms east of Kanhangad Town। The extentive forest of Madathumala merges with the forests of Karnataka. The natural beauty is comparable only to Ooty . This place is quite ideal for trekking.

Valiyaparamba

Seperated from the mainland by backwaters, this this fishing village is an island with the Arabian sea as one of the borders and is an ideal picnic center । So many small islands are here. Madakkal, Edayilekkad , Thekkekkad, Vadakkekkad etc…

Veeramala Hills
This hill top with ruins of a Dutch fort, built in the 18 th century, is a picnic spot from where the natural beauty of Kariangod river and surroundings can be enjoyed. The Chervathur-Kariangot portion of NH 17 runs paralleled to the hill near Mayicha, चेर्वथुर
